Tax information at the library- updated 2/11/22

Federal tax forms and booklets have arrived and can be picked up on the counter by the copy machine.

Additionally, federal tax forms are available online at https://www.irs.gov/.  Like the State of Iowa, many of the forms can be filled out online or printed out.  There are also e-file options that you can explore on their website.  You can also call the IRS and ask to have forms mailed to you  800-829-3676.

We will not be receiving State of Iowa tax forms again this year.  State tax forms can be found at https://tax.iowa.gov/.  Many of the forms can be filled out online.  You can also come to the library to print them out for a fee.  Or you can call the Iowa Department of Revenue to request to have tax forms mailed to you, 515-281-3114 or 800-367-3388, Monday-Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Locally, United Way of the Great River Region will begin its 8th year offering the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) as a service to the tristate community.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is a nationwide service that offers free tax help to people who generally make $59,000 or less. The program also helps the elderly and persons with disabilities who need to file returns.

IRS certified volunteers provide free income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. United Way of the Great River Region will operate by appointment only as a curbside drop off site from Jan. 28 through April 11. An intake and interview checklist will help determine if a taxpayer qualifies for assistance. Federal and state returns will go through a quality review process and be submitted electronically.

“We are excited to partner with the IRS and the Iowa Center for Economic Success to offer VITA as a service to the area” says Executive Director, Karen Siefken. “The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) will offer appointments in Keokuk and Fort Madison.”

To make an appointment, individuals can call the dedicated VITA program cell phone at 319-520-6859 to leave a message to request an appointment. Staff and/or volunteers will review a list of what to bring to the appointment.
