  1. Independence Day at Old Fort Madison

    July 4, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM @ River View Park

    Come and participate in the re-enactment of the 4th of July celebration of Old Fort Madison during the year of 1812. WItness the canon firing in recognition of the 18 states of the union and learn about life on the frontier when the French and English were inciting the Native American to take up arms against the United States.

  2. 104th Annual Charlie Korschgren July 4th Kiddie Parade

    July 4, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM @ Historic Avenue G - A Main Street America Community

    104 years ago, Charlie Korschgren, a local railroad worker started this tradition of marching down historic Avenue G, through the Main Street District. He carried a big base drum and the children from town would march along, in homage to Independence Day. This tradition has continued, with children decorating their bicycles, wagons and making floats. The High School band marches in the parade, along with civic organizations. Plan on attending the heartwarming city wide tradition, in honor of the United States of America!

    Walter A. Sheaffer, a Fort Madison jeweler, secured his patent for this self-filler pen in 1908, changing the writing industry forever. The world renown Sheaffer Pen Company was founded in 1913 and is a large part of Fort Madison's history. The museum is open Monday and Fridays from 10 am to 2 pm or by appointment. Both self-guided and guided tours are available. The museum is handicapped accessible.
