City NewsGeorge Wright Memorial Track MeetThe George Wright Memorial Track Meet, sponsored by the Fort Madison Lions Club, Fort Madison Parks and Recreation Department and Hershey’s Track & Field will be held on Wednesday, May 5 at the Fort Madison High School Track. Registration begins at 4:30 pm and the track meet starts at 5:00 pm. This meet is open to all youth ages 9 to 14 residing in Lee County, Iowa. The age group you compete in is determined by your age on December 31, 2010. Rain date is set for Wednesday May 12. Cemetery Clean UpCemetery clean up begins on Monday, March 8 for Sacred Heart Cemetery, Elmwood Cemetery, City Cemetery & Oakland Cemetery. ALL items must be removed before March 8. Images updated approximately every 15 minutes. 2010 Pet Licenses AvailableResidents of the City of Fort Madison may begin purchasing 2010 dog and cat licenses beginning October 1, 2009. The annual license fee is $5.00 for every altered cat or dog and $15.00 for every unaltered cat and dog over the age of six months. All dogs and cats shall have a current, valid and unexpired vaccination certificate for rabies. Any application for renewal received after December 31, 2009 will be charged a late fee of $5.00. Licenses for pot-bellied pigs for 2010 can also be purchased beginning October 1, 2009. The cost of a license for a pot-bellied pig is $20.00 per year. Licenses are available at the Fort Madison Municipal Building, 811 Avenue E between the hours 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday excluding holidays. For questions, call 372-7700.
