About Us

The Fort Madison Fire Department (FMFD) is responsible for providing the residents of Fort Madison with a professional staff of well trained and experienced fire fighters. In the event of a medical emergency, our fire fighting staff contains Emergency Medical Technician's (EMT's) and Paramedics. In addition to these services, the FMFD is also trained to handle hazardous material emergencies, confined space/technical rescues, water rescues, acts of terrorism and natural disasters.

The FMFD employs 14 full-time fire fighters in addition to the Fire Chief and Fire Marshall. We are equipped with three fire engines and one state of the art aerial fire truck. The department also relies on it's airboat for water rescues and supplies the Lee County Hazardous material Team with its hazmat trailer.

The FMFD is also responsible for enacting and enforcing building and fire codes, providing inspection and evacuation plan reviews and developing programs to educate all Fort Madison citizens in fire and injury prevention. These activities help to minimize fires and other emergencies, which in turn reduce adverse social and economic harships to the community.
