2018 City Wide Fall Clean Up

Please be advised that the City of Fort Madison in their efforts to promote cleanliness and pride in the community has designated an on-site dumpster location for the removal of unwanted or nuisance related items from properties within the community.

This program is intended for the residential customers within the corporate City limits of Fort Madison. It is an excellent opportunity for property owners to address non-compliance conditions.

All Fort Madison residents may bring their refuse to the central location as scheduled below. Residents must provide a valid form of identification and city water bill in order to place refuse items in dumpsters at the city lot at 15th Street & Avenue I.  City employees will assist in verification and direction of traffic. Crews will be on hand to assist residents for unloading purposes in order to decrease drop off time.  Dumpsters will be provided during the hours listed on the following dates: (Please note – all vehicles must be unloaded and out by closing times posted below)

These hours are tentative. If the dumpsters become full you will need to return the next day.

There are many residents within the City of Fort Madison who cannot bring or have the capability to bring their items to the central location site at 15th Street and Avenue I during City Wide Fall Clean Up.  If you are interested in being a Good Samaritan by helping these folks out please call City Hall at (319) 372-7700 x 201 and leave your name and phone number so that we may call upon you to assist those in need.  Thank You!


ITEMS ACCEPTED DURING THE PROGRAM

ALL LOADS MUST BE SECURED AND TARPED. LOADS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IF NOT TARPED.

The City will accept furniture including sofas, rockers, recliners, mattresses, bicycles, metal bed springs, lawn mowers, swing sets, cabinets, flooring and anything made up primarily of metal excluding appliances. Appliances will not be accepted during fall clean up.

ITEMS WE CANNOT ACCEPT DURING THE PROGRAM

Televisions, radios, VCRs, computers, appliances, vehicle batteries, no tires of any size, construction and demolition materials (bricks, concrete, asphalt shingles, lumber, siding, dry wall) – employees may use discretion in taking a small amount of this type of material, liquids (antifreeze, waste oil, paint – paint cans will be accepted ONLY if the lid is off and the contents are either dried or absorbed by saw dust, cat litter, etc.); hazardous materials (explosive materials, volatiles and flammables, poisons); any substance which may present a hazard to collection personnel and materials that are normally taken under the City yard waste program.


THE CITY WILL NO LONGER BE COLLECTING EXTRA GARBAGE DURING THE MONTH OF CITY-WIDE CLEAN-UP.
