2009 Water Rates
Customer Service
Each customer, new or transferring from another address, must sign a service contract. New customers must pay a deposit for water, sewer, and garbage in the amount of $90.00. A $15.00 setup fee will be applied to each customer's first utility bill.
Billing
The utility bill contains charges for water, sewer, garbage, integrated waste services, and storm water utility. The rates for the City of Fort Madison Water Department are outlined in the 2008 Rates page. The water portion of your bill is calculated by applying the current water rate to the actual water usage, measured in 1000 gallons plus the base charge according to meter size. The sewer, garbage, integrated waste services, storm water utility fee portions of the bill are all regulated by the Fort Madison City Council.
Direct Payment Plan
The easy and convenient way to pay your water bill
Save time, postage and checking expense by signing up for the Direct Payment Plan and authorizing us to automatically withdraw your water bill from your checking or savings account. You will continue to receive your water bill as normal, with the automatic deduction from your checking or savings account taking place approximately 5 days before the due date as shown on your bill.
Shutting off Water
If you are moving, selling, leaving for winter, or for some other reason you need your water turned off, be sure to call the water office with enough advance notice to ensure a scheduled time for the turn off. The Water Department will turn the water off at your curb stop, but the customer is responsible for winterizing the property if needed.
2009 Water Rates
The Fort Madison Municipal Water Department rate schedule applicable to all metered consumers whose bills are dated on or after May 1, 2008 shall be as follows:

Plus Water Use Charge per 1,000 gallons
| First 10,000 gallons per month | $4.95 per 1,000 gallons |
| Next 40,000 gallons per month | $4.44 per 1,000 gallons |
| Next 200,000 gallons per month | $3.58 per 1,000 gallons |
| All Over 250,000 gallons per month | $2.85 per 1,000 gallons |
| Wholesale gallons per month | $1.50 per 1,000 gallons |
| Hydrant and other Bulk Water | $4.95 per 1,000 gallons |
All consumers beyond the City limits shall pay water use charges at a rate of one and one half (1) times the City rate. Basic service charges will be the same as those in the City.
