The Friends of Old Fort Madison Committee of the North Lee County Historical Society will hold a short Memorial Day Service at 9:00 am on Monday, May 30 at the site of the original Fort Madison (4th Street & Avenue H). The Memorial Service will honor the 23 known soldiers that passed away defending our country at Fort Madison from 1808-1813 and are buried somewhere in the area of the original Old Fort site.
The current soldiers of the Replica Old Fort Madison will give the Salute, Old Fort Chairman Sharon Harp will read the names of the fallen soldiers. We hope to make this an annual event on the battlefield. It will be a short service 25-30 minutes in length so everyone can still attend the Memorial Day service at Oakland Cemetery at 11:00 am. There is no seating so please bring your lawn chairs if you need to relax.
Hope to see you there to honor our soldiers!
