[ARCHIVED] Job Opening for Transitional Assistant to the City Clerk

Transitional Assistant to the City Clerk 

This is a temporary position which may become a Permanent position.  The position will assist the City Clerk with the recording, filing, coordinating, and supplying upon request all official transactions of the City, enforcing certain business-related permits, and serving as a central information source for City activities.  Work is performed under the general direction of the City Clerk and involves strong information management skills as well as planning and communication skills.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES 

This person will assist the City Clerk with: Attending City Council meetings - Maintaining record of votes –  Preparation of official minutes, and processing of official documents - Receive petitions filed by citizens - Assist with preparation of Ordinances for codification and codification of ordinances into the City Code – Process and maintain vehicle licensing for all City vehicles - Process applications and issue various City permits and licenses - Receive and open City bids – Assist City Boards, Commissions and Committees - Prepare for publication city claims, receipt of funds, payroll and disbursement of funds as required by law - File and remove liens on properties in accordance with State law – Assist with the collection of fees owed to the City – Assist the Custodian of official City records and public documents. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by law or as needed or assigned.

 Other responsibilities include representing the City in a professional, responsible, and trustworthy manner, regular and punctual attendance required. 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE

High school graduate or equivalent is required with some college preferred. Candidates must have four years of experience in an office environment. Valid driver’s license is required. City employees are required to live within 10 miles of Fort Madison.
