[ARCHIVED] Spring Cemetery Clean Up

The City of Fort Madison’s Cemetery Department will once again be conducting cemetery clean up from Monday, March 11, 2013 to Friday, March 22, 2013. In an attempt to inform the public, advertisements will appear in the “Daily Democrat” prior to the actual start of cemetery clean up.

The advertisement will read as follows: ATTENTION Sacred Heart, Elmwood, Oakland & City Cemetery fall cleanup starts on Monday, March 11, 2013. ALL ITEMS MUST be removed before Monday, March 11, 2013. Any items left will be disposed of during cemetery cleanup. NO items are to be placed out until SATURDAY, MARCH 23, 2013. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.

It is important to remember that items can be put back on the graves starting Saturday, March 23, 2013.

* The Fort Madison City Council adopted an ordinance change for Soldiers Circle on November 3, 2004, which was subsequently published in the Daily Democrat on November 12, 2004. The ordinance change pertains to “Ornamentation in Military Sections – Oakland Cemetery” which places restrictions and limitations on items placed on the grave. Copies of the new ordinance are available at City Hall and will be mailed to you upon request by calling 372-7700 x 206.

Cemetery rules and regulations are now posted at each Cemetery. Should a lot owner have any questions or concerns as to what is permissible on their lot, they should check the posted rules and regulations or contact the City Clerk at 319-372-7700 x 206.
