Due to high water levels over the 4th of July, we had to postpone our 2014 fireworks display. The Fort Madison fireworks have been rescheduled to Sunday, July 27th and will be part of the closing ceremony of Fort Madison’s 10-day 175th Anniversary Celebration. Fort Madison Partners have worked closely with J&M Displays to make this year’s event something special, while promoting this great city during its 175th birthday.
For viewing this year, we will be going off the original plan to shut down the highway from the west side of 6th street to the east side of 10th street beginning as early as 8:00 p.m. “With recent flooding, we want to discourage people from going into Riverview Park. With the ground being soggy as well as any remaining debris, we feel it would be better for all to take advantage of the highway being closed off”, states Tim Gobble, Executive Director Fort Madison Partners. Bruce Niggemeyer, FMPD Chief added “We ask those patrons viewing from the street to please clear off the roadway as soon as the fireworks display is over. We need to re-open the road as soon as we can to keep traffic moving, especially for those leaving the display.”
“The show is slated to begin by 9:30 p.m. and will be set to music, which hasn’t been done for a number of years” states Gobble. This free community event is made possible by the generous donations from many individuals and businesses in our community. No rain date has been determined but the forecast will be watched as the date approaches. For more details about the display, contact the Fort Madison Partners office at 319-372-5471.
