Rachel Wilson Albright was a resident of Fort Madison from 1841 until her death on April 18, 1905. She helped sew flags while growing up in the home of her grandmother Betsy Ross, who is widely credited with making the 1st American flag for George Washington. In later years, Rachel made replica flags to raise funds for the restoration of the historic Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia and to celebrate special occasions.
