Rachel Albright.jpg

Rachel Wilson Albright was a resident of Fort Madison from 1841 until her death on April 18, 1905. She helped sew flags while growing up in the home of her grandmother Betsy Ross, who is widely credited with making the 1st American flag for George Washington. In later years, Rachel made replica flags to raise funds for the restoration of the historic Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia and to celebrate special occasions.

The Jean Espy Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will celebrate RACHEL ALBRIGHT DAY on April 18, 2015 from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm. Join us at Fort Madison City Cemetery, 1400 block of Avenue H (across from Hardee's) as members of Jean Espy Chpater will guide visitors to Rachel Albright's gravesite. Rachel Albright will be portrayed by Judy Bartachek at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm.
